Regular Dental Cleanings & Check-Ups
Help Keep You Smiling

Are you hesitant to show your teeth when smiling for pictures? Do you recall your most recent visit to the dentist? Regular dental cleanings and check-ups at Sharon Dental can help restore your confidence in your smile. Our goal is to create a calming atmosphere to alleviate any anxiety about visiting the dentist so that you feel motivated to continue scheduling routine appointments for optimal dental health.

Do You Know?
What Happens at a Dental Cleaning and Check-Up?

Regular dental cleanings do more than just make your teeth look better. Before removing stains and polishing your teeth, our dentists will examine your teeth and gums for signs of gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer. X-rays may be taken to check for issues beneath the gums. If any concerns are found, your dentist will recommend a treatment plan.

During the cleaning, the dentist or dental assistant will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. Plaque is a thin film of bacteria, food, and saliva that can cause cavities and decay. When plaque hardens, it becomes tartar, which requires special tools to remove. Therefore, it's important to have regular check-ups to keep plaque levels under control. After cleaning and polishing your teeth, we'll apply a fluoride treatment to strengthen the enamel.

Seniors and Oral Health
We Love Working With Seniors

How does age affect your dental health? As you age, your mouth undergoes many changes. Plaque builds up much more quickly, and in greater amounts. This can darken teeth and cause gums to be inflamed and vulnerable to periodontal (gum) disease. In addition, gums may recede away from the teeth exposing them to more plaque, which can cause cavities in the root of the tooth. Ill-fitting dentures or bridges can also increase the risk and severity of gum disease. Many medications have the side effect of dry mouth or bad breath. At Sharon Dental, we love working with seniors. If you have concerns about your dental health, please speak to us today.
